Thoubal, Nov 26: A public urinal made of plastic waste was inaugurated at Wangjing Heituppokpi Leikai in Thoubal district today.
Constructed by Likmabam Binodkumar, son of late Likmabam Damo of the locality, as a means to give awareness about cleanliness and hygiene, the urinal was inaugurated by Go Clean Wangjing convenor and IRE Group of Institution, Wangjing Principal Narengbam Rajivkumar.
Concerned with the rampant plastic waste degrading the environment, he conceived the idea of building the public urinal, said Binodkumar. He now has over 1,600 used water bottles collected to be used in construction of another public urinal. The urinal has used plastic bottles, filled with plastic waste, and concrete.
Binodkumar also appreciated and presented shawls to four individuals who helped collect the plastic waste and build the urinal. Associate Professor at Kha-Manipur College Kakching Yangambam Nongpok, members of Go Clean Team Konjengbam Shyama, Khundrakpam Babulin, Sorokhaibam Ojit, S Hemba and Lecturer Moirangthem Roshan also attended the event.
