Imphal, Nov 28: HU, Lairikyengbam Leikai sealed a comprehensive 8-4 victory over SEYO, Singjamei today in a Group A league match of the ongoing 7th State Level Men Hockey Championship being organised by Manipur Hockey at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium.
HU and SEYO which were on high from huge wins in their previous matches, started slowly and were locked at 0-0 till the end of first quarter as defence line on both ends made timely interruptions to keep all threats at bay. HU however made determined entry in the second quarter and managed to take a 3-0 lead as Pritam opened up the account in the 17th minute before Bidyananda (18') and star of the day Ricky Tonjam (24') struck a goal each.
HU continued to dominate both the possession and scoring chances in the following quarter with Ricky Tonjam finding his second goal in the 35th minute to make the score 4-0 before S Robinson adding another to stretch the lead in the 38th minute.
SEYO who were reeling under immense pressure pulled back a goal the very next minute with Ksh Shantakumar converting a penalty corner but their comeback was short-lived as HU regained control and Robinson completed his double in the 44th minute to ensure his team a 6-1 lead till the end of the third quarter.
The last period saw, Ksh Shantakumar completing his double too by coolly dispatching a penalty stroke in the 47th minute and Ksh Hemlet grabbed the team's third two minutes later.
SEYO's bid to recover however was foiled with ease by HU as Ricky struck his third in the 53rd minute and his team mate Somikant scoring the team's last goal next minute to make the scoreline read 8-3. Later, G Dinku scored a goal for SEYO in the 56th minute and it proved to be the game's last as HU held on to their lead and surged home 8-4.
