Forest is indispensable for human survival, says Ukhrul DFO

Ukhrul, Nov 29: Ukhrul DFO Shanngam Shaliwo has said that human being can not survive without forest, however 'our natural floras and fauna will exist without us.'
He was speaking an awareness camp on 'forest management and impact of forest fire' organised by Paorei Village Authority at Christian village ground, Ukhrul today.
He enlightened the villagers about the importance of forest preservation and need of proper management of forest land and produces.
Forest regulates the climatic cycle and keeps the nature in balance. Deforestation has degraded the environment and has severely impacted lives on the planet in many ways, he said.
The uncontrolled felling of trees for economic wants  causes landslide, air becomes impure and accelerate global warming, he added.
Forest fire shrinks forest and destroys biodiversity and habitats of millions of living things which ultimately affects all, the DFO said.
Speaking on the occasion, Ukhrul ADC Member Paothing Vashum dwelt on afforestation to increase green cover. Afforestation should be on the priority list of the village, Paothing said.
He lauded Paorei Village Authority and the locals for their remarkable decision to ban forest fire in the village and regulate forest produces management.
Dearson Chamroy, chairman of TNL  spoke on the forest and environment management.
Addl SP Ringthing Hongchui talked about human resources and natural resources.
He talked about how Japan became an economically self sustained country in spite of limited natural resources. Development of human resources is way forward the develop the State and the Nation, he added.
Pastor Rev M Solo enlightened the gathering on preservation of forest base on Christianity while Somipam Longleng dwelt on benefit of afforestation from Somipam Longleng.
The one day awareness programme was attended VAs, women leaders, youth leaders and all villagers of Paorei.
