IMPHAL, Nov 6: Supporting the stand of Coordinating Committee On Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) to protect the State's integrity and administrative setup, Coordinating Body Khurai and Top Dushara Lamjingbi VLF organised an alert sit in protest at Top Awang Leikai from 11 am to 3 pm today.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, Coordinating Body Khurai executive members Th Bon Khurai and S Roshan Meitei stressed on the importance of organising such alert sit ins instead of being involved in festivities and entertainment programmes, taking the seriousness of the Naga issue into consideration.
They further cautioned that if the final solution to the Naga political issue affects Manipur in any way, an incident like the June 18 of 2001 uprising cannot be ruled out.
The end result will not be good if the Government of India acts only to please the NSCN (IM) instead of listening to the demands of the people, they said.
A sit in was also organised at Konthoujam Lairembi Leikai today during which COCOMI assistant coordinator Ph Nando Luwang, members BM Yaima Shab and Th Manihar spoke on various issues concerning the Naga peace talks and its impact. Similar sit ins were also staged at Nambol Naorem by womenfolk of 6 leikais and at Churachandpur Meitei Leikai as well. On the other hand, Konthoujam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup, under the aegis of COCOMI, organised an alert Meira rally at Konthoujam and its surrounding areas today evening.
