IMPHAL, Nov 8: A team of Manipur State Women Commission (MSWC) has inspected the living condition of women inmates at Central Jail, Old Lambulane, today.
Speaking to media persons, MSWC's Chairperson, Dr Binota Meinam said that the tour was organised to interact with the women inmates so as to address their grievances through upliftment programmes.
"Though they have done wrong in the past, we believe it is our duty to provide them the platform to make up or rectify their mistakes," Dr Binota said.
Central Jail SP, K Kunjakeshore said that the women inmates are given vocational trainings like tailoring and embroidery from time to time under the initiative of Social Welfare Department so that they can have a better life after their jail term expired.
Inmates who completed the course are provided with sewing machines at free of cost, he said and added that a recommendation letter has been sent to authority concerned to increase the wages of inmates.
The Central Jail  has 60 women inmates at present, he said.
