Tripura HC rejects bail of former PWD Minister in Rs 600 crore PWD scam case

AGARTALA, Dec 10: The Tripura High Court today rejected the anticipatory bail petition of former PWD Minister, Badal Choudhury in connection with the multi crore PWD scam.
The order came after three days of intensive hearing.
The division bench of Tripura High Court comprises of Chief Justice Akil Abdulhamid Kureshi and Justice Arindam Lodh.
The PWD minister was represented by eminent lawyer from Calcutta high court Bikash Bhattachrjee, local advocates Purushottam Roy Barman, Arindam Bhattacharjee and Raghunath Mookherjee.
The government side was represented by advocate general Arun Kanti Bhowmik.
However, in a relief to Badal Chowdhury, the high court bench dropped the charges under Section 418 and 420 of IPC against him and allowed the petitioner Badal Chowdhury to apply for bail in the court.
The lawyers representing the state government expressed joy and satisfaction over the high court’s order and claimed it as ‘vindication of the government position’. But the lawyers representing Badal Chowdhury refused to comment on the order today.
