IMPHAL, Dec 10: The total shutdown imposed by All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU), from 3 am to 5 pm today greatly affected normal life in the State.
As a result of the shutdown, which was imposed by AMSU to show solidarity to the North East shutdown called by North East Students' Organisation (NESO) against Citizenship Amendment Bill, Khwairamband Keithel remained mostly deserted and all of the shops in and around the area also remained closed.
The number of vehicles on the road remained low while no passenger vehicles could be seen. Shops, business establishments, schools and educational institutes in the city remained closed.
During the shutdown, AMSU volunteers also stopped vehicles on the road and forced them to turn back.
The bandh was also enforced in various districts of the State. AMSU Tengnoupal district committee volunteers also enforced the total shutdown at Moreh as well
The total shutdown was also effective at Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching and Jiribam. All shops in these districts downed shutters during the bandh and vehicles stayed off the roads. Schools remained closed for the day too.
