AMSU leaders and volunteers released

IMPHAL, Dec 13: Leaders and volunteers of All Manipur Students Union (AMSU), who were arrested on charges for imposing a total shut down on December 10 opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), were released unconditionally by the Courts of CJM Imphal West and Imphal East today, after the State police submitted their final/closure report on the ground of insufficient evidence.
Bruce Pebam, HRD secretary of AMSU HQ, Yumkhaibam Bijando, joint secretary (administration) AMSU HQ, Sagolsem Ranajit, vice president, AMSU Jiribam district and Sinam Bobe, AMSU volunteer, were produced before CJM Imphal West by a team of Imphal PS while Moirangthem Dickson, president of AMSU Lamlai branch and Chourel Khumbongmayum, joint secretary of AMSU, were produced before CJM Imphal East by a team of Lamlai PS today evening.
During the proceeding, the IO submitted that despite efforts to collect evidences against the arrested individuals during their custody period, no concrete evidences could be collected.
On the other hand, AMSU activists and Meira Paibis were ready to launch various forms of agitation demanding release of the arrested members which could have affected the law and order situation of the State, the IOs explained adding that there are no more evidences to substantiate the charges against them.
Accepting the police prayer, the respective Courts released the arrested AMSU leaders and volunteers unconditionally.
