IMPHAL, Dec 4 : The Department of Arts and Culture organised the Day of Inscription of Sankirtana of Manipur in the UNESCO's Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity at Government Dance College, Palace Compound today.
Eminent filmmaker of the State, Aribam Syam Sharma was received by the Department as part of the function.
Speaking at the function, Aribam Syam Sharma expressed gratitude to the Department for organising the function and for upholding Manipur Sankirtana to a higher level.
Maintaining that Manipuri Sankirtana is currently running at the top across the world, the eminent film maker urged the pupils in this field to respect and honour their gurus and their teachings.
The Manipur Sankirtana has become very popular and rare that even the UNESCO has recognised it in its list of 'Intangible cultural heritage of humanity', he added.
Government Dance College artists , including Nupi Pala, performed at the function.
On the other hand, Shree Shree Govindagee Nata Sankirtan Wanghei, Palace Compound in association with Guru Sanatan Hari Sankirtan Neinashang Mabudhou Mantri Leikai Sagolband, Nata Sankirtan and Cholom Research Foundation along with Traditional Folk and Cultural Research Centre, Mongshangei organised the 6th International Sankirtan Day at Manipur Dance Academy today.
MLA Yaiskul AC Th Satyabrata, Manipur Cultural Integration Conference president Aribam Brajakumar Sharma, MLA Kshetrigao AC N Indrajit, MLA Naoria Pakhanglakpa AC Subhash Chandra, Pradhan Guru JNMDA RK Nabindra and Padmashri Sougaijam Thanil attended the function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
