JIRIBAM, May 16: Blacktopping at section of Jiribam - Tipaimukh road has courted condemnation from locals. With the surface breaking at many places as the road is being blacktopped "literally on mud", the locals have decried and demanded that the road construction work be stopped if it is to continue the same way.
Speaking to this correspondent, L Shantikumar Singh, member of Echel Club Dibong, said reconstruction/blacktopping work began on May 14. However, due to lack of concrete and other raw materials, the finished section is not expected to last long, he said.
The surface is breaking in many places as the mud underneath can not hold, he added citing poor quality of the blacktopping.
Condemning the poor implementation of the work, he said that authority and the contractor concerned should rectify the and undertake the work seriously in the interest of the people. He urged the authorities and officials concerned to oversee the blacktopping work to maintain quality.
