IMPHAL, May 24 : Central Wushu Institute (CWI), Nahabam ably claimed the overall team title at the 19th State Level Sub-Junior and Junior Wushu Championship held at Wushu Hall Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, Imphal under the aegis of Wushu Association of Manipur since May 21.
CWI stacked up a total of 24 gold, 15 silver and 6 bronze medals from the Taolu and Sanda events at the championship to finish overall team champions in this championship which was participated by around 150 athletes from across 8 wushu units of the State. SAIRC with 42 medals (22 gold, 12 silver and 8 bronze) and Imphal East with 14 medals (3 gold, 8 silver and 3 bronze) respectively finished overall second and third at the same event.
Most of the medals for CWI came from the Taolu events and also emerged champions of the said event with a haul of 23 gold, 13 silver and 6 bronze medals. SAI-RC clinched the second spot in the taolu competitions with a tally of 8 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze medals while Imphal East District Wushu Association (7 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze) and Imphal West District Wushu Association (2 gold and 1 silver) grabbed the third and fourth place.
SAIRC on the other hand claimed Sanda title as they collected 14 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals while Bishnupur unit were second with 4 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Universal Wushu Academy secured 14 medals including 3 gold, 5 silver and 6 bronze medals to win the third place title of the Sanda competitions.
Imphal West District Wushu Association were adjudged best discipline team at the championship.
The team champions, medal winners were also feted during the closing ceremony of the championship which was graced by Yumnam Joykumar, project director ABD; Dronacharya Awardee, Leishangthem Ibomcha, Centre In-Charge SAI-SAG, Imphal; Elangbam Brojendro, vice chairman Salai Holdings Private Ltd and Mayanglambam Biramani Singh, president, Wushu Association of Manipur as dignitaries.
