DC, Kakching notifies

Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Kakching informed the general public that 'The Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetland Act, 2014' allows for conversion of paddy land for only two purposes - residential purpose and public purpose which includes roads, pipelines, Govt institutions, Oil pumps, gas godowns etc, but does not include private hotels, schools and hospitals, said a notice issued by DC Kakching.
It further informed the public that the application for conversion must be applied to the Sub-Divisional Officer concerned while adding that any construction activities carried out in a paddy land or wetland in violation of the act and without Govt approval will result in stoppage of work, seizure of equipment and penalty including jail terms of upto 5 years and fine upto Rs 5 lakh.
It appealed the public to assist the district administration by not taking up activities violating the act and by reporting of any violation that might be taking place.
