Rapido Bike service officially flagged off in Shillong

SHILLONG, May 7: In an endeavour to ease the traffic issue in Shillong, Rapido Bike (bike taxi service) launched its operations in the the Meghalaya capital on Tuesday.

This Bengaluru-based organisation offers a novel take on an age-old concept of transportation.

The organisation wants to tackle the issues that commuters face due to heavy traffic conditions, especially during the morning rush hours.

Rapido’s city head in Shillong, Suman Acharjee said, “The Rapido concept is based around providing economical, convenient and high-quality transport facilities for solo commuters, especially those who need to travel far or have to get somewhere quickly."

He informed that the app can be easily downloaded from the play store in an Android or IOS phone and the commuters can book a ride by entering the pick-up and destination locations.

Meanwhile, the first group of Rapido Captains or riders also includes four female riders. One of the female riders said that this initiative provides an alternative for economy generation as she is doing it part time and is also working elsewhere.

Yet another rider said that he is happy that they are getting an opportunity to earn especially at a time when jobs are scarce.

It may be mentioned that the user has to download the Rapido mobile app and book the ride. A rider, also known as a Rapido ‘Captain’ will come and pick the passenger up from their location and drop them off at the desired destination.
