IMPHAL, Jun 24: Special Court NIA Manipur has reserved the order concerning the bail application filed by Saikul MLA Yamthong Haokip’s counsel on health ground, till June 27.
During the hearing today, the Court heard the submission of the MLA’s counsel and Special PP NIA at length, and also went through the case record and health status report of the petitioner which was submitted by SP of Manipur Central Jail Sajiwa.
It may be mentioned that Yamthong Haokip (72) s/o (L) Holkhothang Haokip of Mantripukri, filed his second bail application before the Court in the last part of May for releasing him on health grounds as he is presently lodged in judicial custody at JNIMS security ward, in connection with the arms missing case from 2nd Manipur Rifle Arms Kote.
The bail application mentioned that the MLA’s health is deteriorating and prayed for releasing him on bail to get proper treatment.
On November 6 last year, the same Court had rejected the first bail application filed by Yamthong Haokip but still, the Court permitted him to get treatment at the Cardio- Thoracic Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi.
It may be recalled that Yamthong Haokip was formally arrested on August 24 last year by NIA in connection with the arms missing case and before his arrest, a team of NIA had raided his Mantripukti residence (on July 30 and 31 last year).
The Court also recently released Thokchom Diamond (the MLA’s driver), KRA Chief David Hangsing, H Talung Pungphinami, Laishram Damudor and Mathurabashimayum Hiranjoy Sharma on bail.
