CCpur observes Unau day

CCpur, Jun 26: Churachandpur today observed the first district level Unau Day- Day of siblings with disabilities at the Malsawm Ability Resource Centre, TMI campus Pearsonmun today.
The Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) which runs TMI, a school for children with special needs have been observing the day every year since 2011 in commemoration of (L) Malsawm Tonsing's birthday.
This year, the day is observed as a district level event in collaboration with the district administration.
Several schools for disabilities located outside the State have also observed the Unau Day started by TMI to give the siblings of the disabled children mingle with and meet each other.
In Tripura as well as in Tura, Meghalaya Unau Day was observed by different schools of disabilities, said sources from CCI.
Besides awarding merit students from the disable community, the day also witnessed trainees of Happy Feet Football Academy playing several forms of friendly games with the disabled students and their siblings.
Addressing the event, DC Churachandpur Shyam Lal Poonia lauded CCI for taking up novel efforts  and initiatives in uplifting the disable community and giving the opportunity for their siblings and others to understand their abilities and capacities better.
District Level Officers, students from various schools, patrons and others participated in the event while officials from Beti Bachao Beti Padhao presented a gift each to students of TMI through their own siblings, apparently to encourage education for the girl child.
