Helen Keller Day observed

IMPHAL, Jun 27 : The Welfare Association for the Blind, Takyel, organised Helen Keller Day at the Home for the Blind, SAI road, Imphal today.
Principal of Government Ideal Blind School, Y Premlata Devi, president of the Welfare Association of the Blind, Y Brajamohan Singh and Senior Coach Athletics, YS, S Somchandra Singh, attended the event as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking at the event, Y Premlata Devi said that Helen Keller was blind, deaf and mute but she is famous all over the world.
She also explained that nowadays, the advancement in technology has led to invention off devices which can help the blind people in commuting from one place to another.
On the other hand, Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Manipur also observed 139th birth anniversary of Helen Adams Keller at Tera Bazar today.
Flora tributes were paid to the photo of Helen Keller by the dignitaries including Sapam Leikai Gram Panchayat ward member RK Geeta, Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons Manipur acting president P Gopendro and chief editor of journal, Pheejigee Manilaktagi, Nimol Ningombam.
Narrating the life of Helen Keller and her confidence in accomplishing many a great thing despite physically challenged, Nimol Ningombam stated that Helen was the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
During the function where majority of the people were differently aled persons, he appealed all to get inspiration from her story.
P Gopendro motivated all differently abled people to live with a purpose and explore their skill and talents.
Later, a feast was also organised at the end of the event.
