IMPHAL, Jun 29: The Peace and Development Co-ordinating Committee, Khundrakpam AC and neighbouring Saikul AC, (PDCC), has alleged that large amounts from the Rajya Sabha MP Local Area Development Fund have been withdrawn without any work to show for it.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, PDCC general secretary Thongam Hemjit said that ever since PDCC was established, it has been working as a watchdog for the people and for their welfare.
He continued that after the people of Khundrakpam AC began complaining that large amounts from the Rajaya Sabha MP Local Area Development Fund have been withdrawn without executing any work in the locality, PDCC investigated and found many revealing facts.
The Rajya Sabha MP sanctioned Rs 10 lakh for the construction of a Shelter for Animals at Haraorou and the amount was withdrawn.
Rs 5 lakh was also sanctioned for construction of a public pond at Ngairang-bam for the 2017-18 programme, on July 7 last year. A total of Rs 25 lakh was sanctioned for construction of public pond, fisheries, goat shed, tourist platform, aquaculture base and fencing at Haraorou on February 19 this year.
A road was supposed to be constructed at Morok Ingkhol at the cost of Rs 20 lakh which is a remote part of Khundrakpam. All these amounts sanctioned for different projects were withdrawn without doing anything on ground, he alleged.
He then urged the authorities concerned to look into the possible misuse of funds which are meant for welfare of the people. He also informed that an RTI application will be filed to find out the truth.
