Union Taekwondo Academy emerge team champs

IMPHAL, Jul 10 : Union Taekwondo Academy (UTA), Yumnam Leikai were crowned team champions at the 15th Governor's Taekwondo Cup Manipur organised by All Manipur Taekwondo Association at Indoor Stadium Khuman Lampak after collecting a total of 17 gold, 22 silver and 28 bronze medals (417 points) while National Sports Academy (NSA), Khuman Lampak finished runners up with 17 gold, 13 silver and 16 bronze medals (328 points) at this 4 day event.
SAI Recreation Club (SAI-RC) finished second runners up at the same event with a haul of 14 gold, 7 silver and 18 bronze medals which earned them a total of 277 points.
The closing ceremony of the State level event was attended by Y Khemchand, Speaker Manipur Legislative Assembly as chief guest; Bobby Waikhom (IAS), president of All Manipur Taekwondo Association as functional president and Ph Bijendrakumar Sharma, OSD, Transport cum Joint Director as guest of honour who also feted the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Speaker Y Khemchand stressed on the need for reforms in State Sports Policy and Budget. He also rued that players are not rewarded satisfactorily so far although they have made the State proud and sports powerhouse. Bobby Waikhom also spoke about the need to provide latest sports equipment and kits to the players besides conducting refresher courses for the coaches so that new and advanced trainings can be imparted to the athletes.
