Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships: Seram Nirupama wins gold as India's medal haul continues

IMPHAL, Jul 10
Seram Nirupama became the fourth weightlifter from Manipur to have won the gold medals at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship being held at Apia as India pocketed 7 more gold medals on Wednesday.
Seram Nirupama who took part in the junior women's 64 kg category lifted a total of 197 kg (85 kg in snatch and 112 kg in clean and jerk) to win the gold medal a day after Saikhom Mirabai,Sorokhaibam Bindyarani and Ch Rishikanta grabbed the yellow metals.
Sukarna Adak who participated in both junior women and Youth class (59 kg) bagged two gold medals for India today with a lift of 178 kg (77 kg in snatch and 101 kg in clean and jerk).
Jacob Vanlaltluanga also grabbed two gold medals (Junior Men and Youth Men) with a lift of 242 kg (112 kg in snatch and 130 kg in clean and jerk)
In the senior category, Kaur lifted a total of 184 kg (80 kg in snatch +104 kg in clean and jerk) to win the women's 59 kg gold while Halder clinched the yellow metal with a combined effort of 214 kg (94 kg in snatch +120 kg in clean and jerk) in the 64 kg category.
Sports Minister congratulates
Youth Affairs and Sports Minister,  Letpao Haokip has congratulated Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, Bindyarani, Ch Rishikanta Singh and Seram Nirupama on winning gold medals in the 2019 Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship held at Apia, Samoa. The Minister also wished all other participants from the State good health and prosperity in their future endeavours.
Meanwhile, Manipur Weightlifting Association has sent out its congratulatory note for the gold medal feat by Nirupama in her first international appearance. The association also wished her success in her future endeavour.
