Something is just not right with the BJP led Government at the moment. From the stand off within the BJP itself over the leadership question, now comes the open spat between CAF and PD Minister Karam Shyam of the LJP and BJP MLA Leishangthem Susindro. What has made this all that more interesting is the seeming involvement of the people of Khurai AC which is represented by L Susindro and Langthabal AC represented by Karam Shyam. The bandh imposed on Khurai road, leading to important destinations such as Ukhrul a few days back stands testimony to this. That the bandh was called off on account of the death anniversary observation of Lamjing Meira S Robinhood is another matter but it is interesting to see the open verbal duel between the two personalities. At the centre of it all is the alleged loss of six months rice quota for the people of Khurai AC under National Food Security Act. It is not the case of The Sangai Express to say which side of the story carries more weight, but this can be taken to mean that not everything is okay with the BJP led Government. To be sure the open spat cannot be taken to mean a stand off between the BJP and the LJP, but this has added that much more drama and masala to the stand off within the BJP led Government at the moment. Obviously the matter could have been handled in a much more mature way and coming out in the public domain does not exactly paint the Government in good light and this is not something to be proud of at all. Perhaps it would be in the fitness of things for the Chief Minister to step in and see that the open spat is brought to an end. Any difference can always be sorted out within the Government without coming out to the public domain. One understands that the hand of the Chief Minister must be full. At the moment there is no indication that the rebel MLAs have backtracked and are on their way to the reconciliation process. And certainly the open stand off between the BJP MLA and a Minister from the LJP cannot be good for the Government by any stretch of the imagination. Rein in the MLA and the Minister for this is not how one expects public leaders to behave in the public. On the other hand, with the Speaker’s Tribunal having taken up proceedings against some Congress MLAs who have joined the BJP led coalition, one can expect more political drama in the coming days. Infighting within the BJP Government, open spat between a BJP MLA and the CAF and PD Minister who is from the LJP and Speaker’s Tribunal taking up proceedings against some rogue Congress MLAs and surely things will be interesting in the coming days. One just hopes that the Government does not lose sight of the possibilities of the bigger issues that may rock the State anytime in the near future. And this particularly includes the pending final pact between New Delhi and the NSCN (IM) and the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which the BJP had assured to bring back if voted back to power in the just held Lok Sabha elections.
