IMPHAL, Jul 16
Joint Students' Co-ordination Committee (JSCC), an apex body of AMSU, MSF, KSA, SUK, has denounced the alleged utilisation of Manipur Bhawan Kolkata for personal gain by some officials, causing inconveniences to the public, while warning that the committee will not remain a mere spectator on the matter if the situation persists.
A press release issued by the media co-ordinator of JSCC stated that the under secretary of General Administrative Department (GAD) issued a termination order of five officials, including the Deputy Resident Commissioner of Manipur Bhawan, Kolkata, on May 2.
JSCC alleged that the said Deputy Resident Commissioner was accused of misappropriation of funds and secretly appointing non-Manipuris and added that although the Government has not issued an official statement on service extension of Deputy Resident Commissioner, the said Commissioner is still operating at the Bhawan which clearly shows that there is no governance in the State.
It stated that the officer was supposed to step down from the office on May 31 but the Deputy Resident Commissioner is still holding the post of DRC and DDO, causing numerous inconveniences to the people.
The committee, after conducting a thorough investigation, found that the officer is allegedly resorting to unethical means to extend the service terms.
It is against the rule for a Govt officer to carry on the office post even after resignation, JSCC noted.
JSCC warned that it will join hands with Manipur Student's Association Kolkata (MSAK) and launch intense form of agitation if the process of re-engagement is not stopped at the earliest and necessary inquiry on the misappropriation of funds sanctioned for the Bhawan is conducted.
It also appealed the Chief Minister, who is also holding the office of GAD, to depute a fresh DRC at the earliest.
