IMC starts drain cleaning at Greater Imphal

Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) has started cleaning the drains in the Greater Imphal from today.
MAHUD Minister Thounaojam Shyamkumar inspected the cleaning of the drains at Khwairamband Bazar area near Family Welfare Department, Imphal West.
He said that the cleaning of drains will continue in the coming days in the various places of Greater Imphal.
Addressing media persons, Shyamkumar announced that from tomorrow, IMC officials will start a drive to inspect shops and those found violating IMC guidelines will attract legal action under the Manipur Municipalities Act, 1994.
He appealed to the shop owners to get their shops licenced and follow necessary IMC guidelines like registration of shops, using dust bins, availing facility of door to door garbage collection and timely payment of tax among others.
The MAHUD Minister said that illegal encroachment on footpath by mobile vendors and others will also attract legal action and asked the mobile vendors like sugarcane juice sellers, tea sellers among others to get registration from the IMC immediately.
Stating that street vendors of Ima Keithel have been allotted particular time in the morning and evening so that they can sell vegetables and other products, he requested the street vendors to use dust bins and clean their areas after finishing their work to help in keeping Asia’s largest women’s market neat and clean.
Shyamkumar further appealed to the citizens of the State to cooperate with Imphal Municipal Corporation officials during the drive.
