Tribal poets meet held at Imphal

IMPHAL, Jul 19: Tribal Poets' Meet was organised today at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
Speaking at the event, Convenor Manipuri Advisory Board, Sahitya Akademi, N Kirankumar acknowledged the invaluable contributions of the tribal poets and writers towards their communities and the State at large.
Stating that many tribal poets have been conferred many prestigious awards in the filed of literature, he encouraged the tribal writers to continue their works and educate the society.
The writers have been playing vast and significant roles in preserving and promoting folklore and other aged tales associated with history, tradition and culture of the respective communities, he said pointing out the importance of such records in writing for generations to study.
The programme - 'Tribal Poets' Meet & Yuva Sahiti', organised by Sahitya Akademi and Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, was attended by Devendra Kumar Devesh, Regional Secretary Sahitya Akademi Kolkata, L Upendro Sharma, president Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, AC Netrajit, general secretary Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti and many renowned tribal poets.
Ayung Raikhan (Tankhul writer), Chingya Chawung (Tangkhul), Jammang Haokip (Thadou Kuki), Paomilal Haokip (Thadou Kuki), Lanbon Kabui (Kabui), Lujai Longmei (Kabui), Adibo Newmei (Liangmai), Kentaliu Newmei (Liangmai), A Kholi Pijii (Mao) and K Sani Alexander (Mao) recited poems at the event.
N Promila Devi, Bedana Longjam, Jiten Akoijam, Chirom Kingking, Jiten Oinamba and Rameshwor Sharungbam also recited poems during the 'Yuva Sahiti' in afternoon session.
