IMPHAL, Jul 1: Officials of Medical Directorate  Food Security seized a large quantity of Ereima Packaged drinking water bottles, manufactured by OK Enterprises, Thoubal Ningomba, for not including proper labels.
Speaking to media persons at Medical Directorate conference hall, Lamphel today morning, Additional Food Safety Commissioner/ Health Director K Rajo said that as this time of the year is often plagued by cases of water borne illness, teams of Food Safety have conducted checks and inspections at various places.
During one such drive, a team of Food Safety found that the Ereima packaged drinking water did not contain any batch number, manufacturing date etc, he said and explained that one should always check the labels present on such bottles as well as inspect the water for any kind of impurities.
As per the norms of the Food Safety and Standard Act of India (FSSAI), necessary action can be taken up if proper labels and details are missing from a particular product.
On the other hand, Designated Food Safety Officer Imphal East, T Brojendro Khaba explained that Ereima packaged drinking water began business with approval and license from the Thoubal District Administration and added that all the Designated Food Safety Officers will be directed to strictly monitor all the packaged drinking water manufacturers in the State and submit the necessary reports within 15 days.
If any of the manufacturers are found guilty, their license will be cancelled, he added.
He continued that whether or not the packaged drinking water bottles seized by the Food Safety team are fit for consumption, will only be known after necessary tests in the laboratories.
However, the gross negligence and failure to put proper labels can attract a huge penalty/fine, Brojendro added.
