Hawaibam Nilamani Memorial Award conferred to Dr S Thanileima

IMPHAL, Jul 7: Celebrating 72 years of Rupmahal  Theatre, Hawaibam Nilamani Memorial Award was conferred to Dr Sanabam Thanileima today.
The award carries cash prize of Rs 10,000 citation and shawl.
Dr S Thanileima was born on September 16, 1972 to S Tombi Singh and S Ongbi Tombimacha Devi of Wangkhei Pukhrambam Leirak. She began taking interest in theatre from an  early age of 18. She first joined Cosmopolitan Dramatic Union and began her journey in the field of theatre.
She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Dramatic Art from National School of Drama (2001). She successfully directed Shakespeare's Macbeth in 2003 and was shown in International Theatre Festival in New Delhi in the same year.
For her play on Shakespeare's Macbeth, she was invited to join International Directors' Study Tour to study Japanese performing art form by the Japan Foundation, Tokyo.
She established her own theatre group "Khenjonglang" in 2004.
In 2012, she was awarded Yuva Puraskar Award by Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.
As part of the celebration, Merairurabi, of theatre group- Khenjonglang, directed by Thanileima was presented to the audience.
Manipur Sahitya Parishad president IS Kangjam and Rupmahal Theatre chairman Keisham Heramani attended the event as chief guest and president respectively.
