Sirarakhong Hathei Phanit to be celebrated for three days from Aug 22
By Our Staff Reporter IMPHAL, Aug 16: The Sirarakhong Hathei Phanit (Chilli Festival) 2019 will be celebrated for three days starting August 22, said chairman Sirarakhong village, Ningkhan Zimik. Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, he said that the opening day of festival will be attended by Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar as chief guest. On the sideline of the festival, the Minister will inspect the agricultural land/fields in the region, he said. Considering the higher produces this year, dried chilli will be sold at Rs 400 per kg. The same was sold at Rs 500 per kg last year, he added. The yield is higher this year due to deficient rain. When other crops such as paddy depend on adequate rains, chilli plantation however needs little rain, he said informing that around 80 tonnes of chilli are produced this year. Health Minister L Jayantakumar will attend the second day of the festival as chief guest. DIG 10 Sector Somsai Assam Rifles, Brigadier Mohit and ADC Ukhrul Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung will attend closing day of the festival as chief guest and guest of honour respectively, he said.
