IMPHAL, Aug 22 : Ekta Parishad Manipur project coordinator Haobijam Surjit Meitei has appealed to the Government to deliberate the issue of indigenous people of the State who do not posses any land documents, in the State Assembly.
Speaking to media persons  at Manipur Press Club today,  Surjit said that there are many indigenous people in the State who do not possess any land documents but they are still covered by the Article 21 of the Constitution, Right to shelter. These people are mostly labourers and poor people but till date, the Govt has not done anything to solve this issue, he alleged. The Revenue Dept also does not conduct any survey to find out how many do not possess such land documents.
Mentioning that the association had sent a memorandum to the authority concerned to solve the problem, Surjit continued that till date not positive actions can be seen.
He informed that the association also filed a case to Manipur Human Rights Commission on May 5 but as it was taking too long, a PIL was also filed to the High Court of Manipur. Appealing the Govt to discuss the issue during the coming Assembly session, he warned that  various agitation will be launched if the Govt fails to hear the demands of the people.
