Phunchung YC set up semi-final date with Liwa Changning YCC

IMPHAL, Aug 6 : Phunchung YC edged out Angkhel Chayang-A by 3-2 goals in a keenly contested quarter final match to set up semi-final date with Liwa Changning YCC who overcame Lambung YCC with a semilar win 3-2 win in the 8th Cheengkhu Premier Cup, Village Level Football Tournament being organised by Cheengkhu Youth Club at Mini Stadium, Chandel Christian.
The third quarter final match of the tournament saw, Liwa Changning YCC enjoy upperhand in the first half before facing a tough challenge from Lambung YCC in the second half.
Damme broke the deadlock in the 29th minute and handed Liwa Changning YCC the lead while his team-mate Phamsir hit the second goal in the 38th minute. They continued to press the Lambung side with threatening runs despite the huge lead and netted the third with the help of Bisorjit in the 45th minute.
Lambung YCC which were struggling in the earlier portion of the game pulled back a goal in the 47th minute through HL Atlee and SW Moshimla set up a recovery path as he struck Lambung YCC's second in the 54th minute. Their spirited efforts however failed to translate into goals as Liwa Changning YCC defence stood like an impregnable wall and emerged the eventual winners.
Meanwhile, the last quarter final match was an edge of the seat contest as Angkhel Chayang-A returned twice before Phunchung held them off to seal a hard fought 3-2 win.
Thangnahring helped Phunchung start the game optimistically with his goal in the 14th minute but Renghou of Angkhel Chayang-A levelled the score in the 24th minute off the match. Denny then earned Phunchung YC the lead again in the 35th minute before Morningson scored to give the team a two goal lead with another strike for the team in the 48th minute of the match. Angthot of Angkhel Chayang-A reduced the gap with a fine shot in the 52nd minute and sustained their pressure in search of the equaliser. Their efforts however fell short as Phunchung YC produced fine defense and brilliant saves to ensure their win and a place in the semi-final.
