Cheengkhu Premier Cup: Winkle stars as Chumbang FC decimate Japhou YC 9-2 to seal final berth

IMPHAL, Aug 7 : Winkle produced yet another stellar performance today to help Chumbang FC trounce Japhou Youth Club 9-2 in the first semi-final match of the ongoing 8th Cheengkhu Premier Cup, a village level football tournament organised by Cheengkhu Youth Club at Mini Stadium, Chandel Christian.
Ahong, Ahrapa and Sungrim led the attack for Chumbang FC in the first half and made it 4-0 past the Japhou side before Winkle took charge up at the front in the second half and set up an impressive 9-2 win today.
Chumbang FC found the breakthrough early in the 5th minute when Ahong slipped into Japhou Youth Club's box and unleashed a fine shot while his team mate Ahrapa netted the second goal within a span of 2 minutes. Ahong rose again for his second goal in the 21st minute before Sungrim consolidate another goal for the team in the 35th minute to make their wining stance crystal clear.
It was all about Winkle in the second half as he carried forward the momentum and quick-fired two goals in the 51st and the 55th minute to hand Chumbang FC a 6-0 lead.
With the huge lead they took their feet off the pedal for a while and it was during such a short period that Alwinson (60') and Marconi (69') pulled back a goal each and made it 2-6.
It did not take for Chumbang FC to return into the game and gave no respite to their rivals as Winkle resumed the onslaught and struck his third goal in the 70th minute before pumping two more goals (80' and 80+1') and completed the 9-2 demolition.
Phunchung YC will meet Liwa Changning YCC in the second semi-final match tomorrow at 2 pm.
