In construction process... Airport roof gives way, workers hurt

IMPHAL, Sep 18 : At least 8 workers engaged in cons-truction work at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport were injured when the roof of the cargo terminal building gave way today at about 6 pm.
The incident occurred while the workers were cementing the roof on the ground floor.
According to sources, the incident took place while the workers were cementing the roof of the ground floor of the cargo terminal building and giving the concrete layering.
Eight workers engaged in the construction were injured and had to be rushed to RIMS hospital.
The construction at the said floor is taken up by Electrical and Motors Workshop.
The incident site is also located adjacent to 5 J&K Rifles.
Soon after the incident a team of State police and Manipur Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot to evacuate the injured persons trapped under the collapsed roof
The injured workers are identified as Amom Mithun (30) s/o Doren of Wangoo, Saimom Nongpoknganba (24) s/o Dhaka of Arong Nongmaikhong, Wahengbam Dhaneshwar (29) s/o Nimai of Arong Nongmaikhong, Wahengbam Abungcha (25) s/o Kamo of Arong Nongmaikhong Naoroibam Manglemjao of Lambal Awang Leikai, Khulem Biswamitra (26) s/o (L) Tolamu of Luker, K Gopi (25) s/o (L) Heman of Sanjenbam and Heikrujam Ibotomba (27) s/o Ingocha of Sanjenbam.  Responding to the situation troops of Tulihal Battalion of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) immediately rushed to the site and rescued eight workers from the accident spot who were then given first aid by the unit medical team and immediately evacuated to RIMS hospital, said the PRO of the Assam Rifles.
An airway was made by the troops into the fallen debris to ensure inlet of air into the fallen debris and a thorough search of the debris was also carried out by sniffer dogs of the battalion. The police, fire services and officials of Airport were immediately informed who also rushed to the site of accident, added the statement. The IG police alongwith Additional Chief Secretary Disaster Management, Director Bir Tikendrajit Airport and other State Civil and police officials also reached the location to inspect the accident site. Clearance of debris is still under progress by the fire service team, added the PRO of Assam Rifles.
