‘Student participation in literary events important’

Imphal, Sep 28: Education Minister Thokchom Radheshyam said that it is important for the college and university students to participate in the literary events as it will help them understand the cultural and literary values of Manipur.
The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural of the seminar titled ‘Prof Ningthoukhongjam Tombi Singhgi Punsi Amasung Thabak (Prof Ningthoukhongjam Tombi Singh’s Life and Work)' at Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
During the seminar organised by Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal, a book titled ‘Professor Gunogi Painting’, written by Prof N Tombi Singh was released.
He said that topics discussed during the seminar are aimed to impart awareness among the students about the prevailing trends in the field of language and literature.
Many lessons and values imbibed in the books of Prof N Tombi Singh and many other renowned writers of Manipur show the true essence of righteousness and sacrifices, he added.
Life, he said, is a lesson and it varies with each and every individual, but to discuss the life and work of Prof N Tombi Singh is a monumental task.
Reminiscing the time when he met Prof N Tombi Singh at Delhi who was then the MP representing Inner Manipur in Lok Sabha, he said that as a leader of the State he was always ready to support and facilitate people who approached him for any help.
Highlighting the works and contribution of Prof N Tombi Singh, president, Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal, L Upendra Sharma said that the translated version of Manipuri epic, Khamba Thoibi Seireng is one such book that became the window of Manipur culture and traditions to the  world.
In the technical session, topics focused on life, work and literary contribution of Prof N Tombi Singh were presented.  The programme was also attended by renowned writers, resource persons and scholarly persons.
