DESAM submits

    03-Sep-2019
IMPHAL, Sep 3: Democratic Students' Association of Manipur (DESAM) has submitted a memorandum to the Minister of State, Youth Affairs and Sports (independent charge) Kiren Rijiju, appealing the Union Minister to ensure the appointment of regular VC, Registrar, Controller of Examinations and other administrative and faculty posts of the National Sports University at the earliest, as well as to conduct all the interviews for the appointment of the staff, including the faculty members at NSU Imphal and not at Delhi or Kolkata.
The memo mentioned that even after 2 years and 8 months, the existence of NSU in Manipur is being questioned as it does not have any regular manpower and infrastructure requirements including a regular campus even though regular courses stated since December 17, 2017.
It alleged that the university has been running in name sake only with a single Dean.
There are no regular VC, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, Deans for four proposed  school (school of sports sciences and sports medicine, school of sports management and technology, school of sports education and school of interdisciplinary studies), Finance Officer and other staff.
No regular faculty has been appointed by the university till date, it added.
DESAM continued that the Under Secretary (Sports) sent a communication addressed to the president of the association on August 22 assuring that actions are being taken up to appoint a regular VC, Registrar and Finance Officer but there was no mention about the appointment of Controller of Examination.
It mentioned that the communication tried to justify conduct of interviews for appointment of faculty members of NSU at Delhi and Kolkata on the premise that there must be National character of any Central University like NSU and that it is not necessary to earmark a particular State for conducting the interviews.
Reasoning that the same premise is not followed for the remaining 48 Central Universities in the country, DESAM appealed to the Union Minister to ensure that the interviews for the appointment of faculty of  NSU are conducted at Imphal and not Delhi or Kolkata.
It also appealed to the Union Minister for early appointment of regular faculty members and staff.
