Tamenglong cries drought

    08-Sep-2019
TAMENGLONG, Sep 8: The Tamenglong and Noney Districts Village Chiefs' Association, Manipur, has drawn the attention of the State Government to assess the drought hit areas of the two districts.
A statement issued by the secretary of the association today mentioned that the State Government asked the DCs concerned to submit field reports regarding the current drought situation in a very limited time and as such some SDOs could not visit their respective subdivision properly.
Hence they submitted their filed reports randomly regarding the extent of the drought crisis in their respective zone of jurisdiction, the association alleged, adding that the said reports submitted by the SDOs through the DCs are purely based on speculation without proper verification.
It continued that the SDOs of Khoupum, Haochong, Tousem and Nungba could not assess the effect of drought in their respective subdivisions and submitted random field reports due to the limited time fixed by the Government.
It further appealed the Government to extend a few weeks time for the submission of the field reports so as to enable the SDOs concerned to physically and minutely assess the drought hit areas of Tamenglong and Noney districts, especially the interior regions.
On the other hand, the association urged all the agitating villages against the posting of Tamenglong DC Armstrong Pame, to exercise restraint reasoning that there are numerous pending works which require the full functioning of the DC office.
The agitation has hampered the daily functioning of the district administration and it is detrimental to the interest of Tamenglong district, it explained.
