2nd Leishang Hiden Festival from January 12

IMPHAL, Jan 10: The 2nd Leishang Hiden Kummei 2020  will be celebrated from January 12 to 30, said Leishang Hiden Protection and Development Authority (LHPDA) founder settler LC Romesh today.
Speaking to media persons at the planned festival venue  opposite Manipur University main gate, Romesh said that the festival was first held in 2018 (October 30 to Nov 20). The festival aims at promoting and preserving the historic Leishang Hiden, he added.
Many cultural events including indigenous Thang-Ta, Yubi Lakpi, Mukna and Likkon will be promoted during the festival, said Romesh.
Mentioning that Hiyang Tanaba was held during the time when Langthabal was (Konung) capital, he said that a special Hiyang Tanaba event will be held to relive  the past and promote the indigenous boat race.
Many stalls exhibiting and selling indigenous products (handloom and handicraft) will be installed at the venue during the festival, he said appealing all to attend  and help save the Leishang Hiden.
Expressing the needs to protect the water body, he said that the LHPDA had submitted memoranda to the Government to preserve the Leishang Hiden, but it has not yet received any positive response.
