Pension eludes

IMPHAL, Jan 13: Even though employees of the State Government have been already given advanced pay and it is now almost mid-January, pensioners registered under the Imphal West Treasury Officer have not been given their pension for the month of December last year.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here this afternoon, Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) general secretary Purujit Lairikyengbam said that pensioners of Imphal West have not been given their pension for the month of December till date due to absence of Treasury Officer.
Even as MGSF made several attempts to discuss the matter with top officials of the State Government including the Principal Secretary (Finance), all the efforts proved futile, Purujit said.
As the situation grew worse, the MGSF finally succeeded in holding a meeting with the Chief Secretary this morning.
All the difficulties being encountered by pensioners were discussed during the meeting. Soon after the meeting, the Chief Secretary issued an order for appointment of Imphal West Treasury Officer, Purujit conveyed.
While hailing the Chief Secretary’s prompt intervention, the MGSF general secretary appealed to all authorities concerned to ensure that all pensioners are given their pensions in time.
