IMPHAL, Jan 23 : Directorate of Extension Education, Central Agricultural University Imphal organised the 3rd batch of the three days farmers training programme on "Biofloc technology and fish health management" at CAU Lamphelpat today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the event, Director of Fisheries N Gojendro said that biofloc technology expressed hope that the production of fish will improve if biofloc technology is introduced to farmers (both in the hills and the valley), which allows them to rear/breed fishes without creating a pond.
He maintained that the initiative taken up by CAU to impart training to farmers, on such an advantageous method, which aims to decrease the wide gap between the demand and the supply of fishes, is commendable.
The Director further expressed hope that fish production in the State would be able to increase or improve with the use of such technology.
However, the Government has not yet given the instruction or okayed the biofloc technology, added the Director.
As such, steps are being taken up to revive the fish farms of the Department and at the same time, study/survey is going on at the farms to figure out the reason for not producing ample fishes to meet the demands of the public.
Deputy Director, Research Dr Robindro urged the trainees  to gather all the valuable information imparted during the three days training.
He further urged them to transform the knowledge into action as a technique like biofloc technology will benefit all farmers, even those who does not have a proper pond.
Meanwhile, Deputy Director Instruction Dr Bedajit maintained that biofloc technology is admired and applied successfully by all across the world. This new technique has many benefits as compared to the traditional system of fish farming, he said while urging all have proper knowledge about biofloc technology before applying it.
