Aizawl to soon get aerial cable car

AIZAWL, Jan 22: Mizoram’s capital Aizawl will soon get a new stuff to its existing public transport system as the Centre has approved a proposal to construct aerial cable car in the state capital.
Official sources said on Wednesday that chief minister Zoramthanga, who is currently in the national capital, on Tuesday met NITI Aayog vice Chairman Dr. Rajiv Kumar and discussed about development projects in Mizoram.
Kumar informed the Mizoram chief minister that the  policy commission has approved the project to construct cable car service on two corridors in Aizawl to improve public transport system, the sources said.
He also informed the Mizoram chief minister that financial allocation has also been made for the project and experts from Delhi will be sent to Aizawl next week.
According to Transport department officials, the proposed aerial cable car system will be constructed on the North-South corridor to link Aizawl northernmost neighbourhood Durtlang with Kulikawn in the south.
The cable car project will also be constructed between Thuampui in the east and Solomon’s Temple in western part of the capital, which is known as East-West corridor, officials said.
They also said that the proposal for cable car system was approved by the Centre after studying its feasibility.
During his meeting with NITI Aayog vice chairman on Tuesday, Zoramthanga also mentioned about bamboo link road in the state and requested him to facilitate immediate release of fund for the northeastern states under 10 per cent gross budgetary scheme.
Official sources also said that Zoramthanga also met Union Eomen and Child Development minister Smriti Zubin Irani on Wednesday during which the Union minister promised to set up one stop centre each in three newly created- Saitual, Khawzawl and Hnahthial districts.
