IMPHAL, Oct 13: The International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) has urged all communities concerned to study and understand the facts and history regarding the site of the National Sports University and appealed for peace.
Claiming that the site for the sports university falls under the Imphal West district as per the Government’s ‘Gazette notification’, IPSA in a statement asserted that the present conflict surrounding the site is a result of ‘rampant’ culture of changing old names by groups or communities concerned.
All communities should respect the original names of places which have significant historical and cultural values. These original names of historical importance shall never be changed and given new names. Similarly, the site for the National Sports University, Haoraothel/Haorao Ching has cultural and religious values, said IPSA. The issue of jurisdiction over the site may result in shifting of the sports university to another State, added IPSA. It also appealed to the Government to start monitoring and act on the issue of change of names of places.
Manipur Valley Village Reserve Forest Right Protection Association has also  appealed to all communities to defuse the tension and maintain peace and tranquility in the area.
