IMPHAL, Oct 16 : On the occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba, which falls on October 17, Governor Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N Biren Singh have sent their greetings to the people of Manipur.
“My heartiest greetings to the people of Manipur on the happy occasion of Mera Chaoren Houba, 2020. Mera Chaoren Houba is a traditional festival of Manipur and it is celebrated on the advent of Mera-tha (September-October)... I am hopeful that the festival will strengthen the bond of unity and integrity among the different communities and usher in peace and prosperity in the State,” said Governor Najma Heptulla in her message.
Chief Minister N biren also sent his greetings to the people on the occasion.
Mera Chaoren Houba is a traditional festival heralding the advent of Mera Tha, the seventh month on the Meitei Lunar Calendar. The month of Mera brings back the age-old tradition of love and brotherhood between the hill and valley people. The festival assumes significance even more today when various vested interests are attempting to incite feelings of ill-will and enmity amongst various communities. May this festival strengthen further the inseparable bond existing since time immemorial between the hill  and valley people, said N Biren in his message.
