Recovery rate declines to 74.93 pc, total cases stand at 16,276Death toll races to 124

IMPHAL, Oct 21: The State’s COVID-19 death toll has touched 124 as the virus claimed three more lives and infected 214 persons taking the number of positive cases to 16,276 in the last 24 hours reducing the recovery rate to 74.93 percent from  75.07 percent.
The three persons including a 70-year-old woman from Thoubal, another 60-year-old woman from Tengnoupal and one 50-year-old man from Thoubal died at Shija Hospital, said a report of the COVID-19 Common Control Room issued by Additional Director (Health), Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang today.
According to sources at Shija Hospital, the 60-year-old woman from Tengnoupal district was brought in at the hospital at around 2 pm yesterday with difficulty in breathing and exhaustion. She died at 1.30 am today.
The 70-year-old woman from Thoubal district was admitted at the hospital yesterday night. She too had difficulties in breathing. She died at 5.10 pm.
On the other hand, the 50-year-old man from Thoubal district was admitted to the hospital yesterday and he had diabetes. He died at 8.30 am, said the sources.
Meanwhile, the COVID-19 Common Control Room reported that 214 persons including 208 civilians and 6 personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.
The 208 civilians include 96 males and 112 females. They hail from Imphal East (55), Imphal West (35), Tamenglong (34), Bishnupur (24), Thoubal (20), Churachandpur (10), Chandel (8), Senapati (6), Kakching (4), Tengnoupal (4), Ukhrul (3), Kangpokpi (3) and Noney (2). All are locals without significant travel history. All necessary precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, said the COVID-19 Common Control Room.
In the last 24 hours, 138 were discharged after recovery from COVID-19 Care Centres of UNACCO (30), LKK (20), Lamding (17), RIMS (12), Thoubal (11), Bishnupur (11), home isolation (10), RD Wing (8), CAPF (5), Tamenglong (5), Senapati (3), PR School Kakching (3), Sadhbhavna (2) and Lanva (1).
The total number of COVID-19 positive cases has reached 16,276 including 13,590 civilians and 2,686 Central security personnel. The number of recovered cases has reached 12,197 including 9,838 civilians and 2,359 security personnel.
The number of COVID-19 active  cases is 3,955 including 3,632 civilians and 323 security personnel.
The recovery rate has declined to 74.93 percent from  75.07 percent.
A late report from JNIMS said 33 new cases have been detected at the hospital. They were found positive for the virus when testing 71 samples.
In Thoubal, swab samples of 139 persons were tested on RAT and 25 were found positive for the virus, said sources.
