IMPHAL, Oct 21 : The Imphal West district police have seized huge quantities of substances suspected to be banned drugs and arrested two non locals allegedly involved in trafficking the substances.
According to a police source, a team of Narcotic Cell led by Sub Inspector Alexander intercepted an oil tanker during frisking along Dingko road (opposite Hyundai Showroom) on October 19 at around 10.35 pm.
Upon through checking, the team detected 17 packets of suspected contraband drug 'Opium' weighing around 14.5 kilograms concealed inside the oil tanker and the occupant identified as Rajkumar Rai (22), son of (L) Narayan Rai of Tejpur Assam was subsequently arrested, the source said.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested person revealed the name of his associate Somnath Gautum (29) of Chaar Hajari and was arrested yesterday at around 11 am, the source said.
Both the arrested persons have been handed over to Imphal Police Station for necessary legal proceedings.
