Imphal, Oct 27 : Renowned journalist , Khelen Thokchom was fondly remembered on his 60th birth anniversary in a function organised at Manipur Press Club today.
Floral tributes were paid to the portrait of the late journalist during the  programme held under the theme "Remembering Khelen Thokchom" and organised by Khelen Thokchom Trust, Manipur.
Khelen, who was a special correspondent of The Telegraph, passed away on April 1, 2017.
The trust named Ng Liklaileima of The Sangai Express as 'Media fellow' for the year 2020-21.
For this year the topic for the media fellowship is "Challenges and Opportunities of Urbanisation in Manipur".
All Manipur Working Journalist Union's president Bijoy Kakchingtabam announced the fellowship in the gathering.
The fellowship carries a cash incentive of Rs 50, 000.
The media fellow from among applicants was selected by a jury entrusted by Khelen Thokchom Trust.  
This was the third media fellowship rewarded by the trust. The fellowship was initiated with the motive to promote journalists and to strengthen journalism in the State to help push the society in a positive direction.
Previous years media fellows were felicitated during the anniversary observation. They shared their experience and challenges in making their stories.
The function was organised maintaining Covid-19 SOP.
Speaking at the occasion, Bijoy Kakchingtabam lauded the effort of the trust towards realising the dream of the late journalist to boost the quality of journalism in the State.
The state of journalism is seemingly losing its sheen in the last ten years and thus it should be the responsibility of all in the field of journalism to redeem its former might and strive for further development, he added.
