Ukhrul, Oct 3: A lengthy deliberation on how to proceed forward with the demand for a separate Sinakeithei Assembly Constituency was held today at the Sinakeithei village Community Hall.
A co-ordination meeting inviting all the Headmen, Chairmen and elders of Western villages of Ukhrul district for consensus approval for the demand for creating a separate Sinakeithei A/C proposal under the 4th Delimitation Commission of India as per 2001 census figures, was organised.
K Phungmi Chairman of Sinakeithei village, who is also the convener of Delimitation Committee of Sinakeithei village while demanding for creation of Sinakeithei A/C said that, in 2007 the Delimitation Commission of India proposed for increase of one Assembly seat in Ukhrul district, clubbing 42 villages of Western villages of Ukhrul, however this delimitation exercise was deffered due to law and order issues.
Meanwhile, Worreingam a committee member expressed that a new order was issued on Feb 28, 2020 to resume/activate the delimitation exercise, from the Union Ministry of Law & Justice in the Manipur state.
He expressed dismay against the previous Congress led Government, alleging that wrong information was fed to Central Government about the ordinance power.
This Co-ordination meeting was organised to get the consent of every village and to strengthen the movement demanding for separate Sinakeithei A/C.
The State Government must considere the prolong demand and accomodate Western villages into one Assembly Constituency for fairness.
Exhortation from Joseph Hmar ex- president ATSUM, Wungnaosung president TKS and others was followed by public interaction programe to share views and opinions to intensify the demand for separate AC.
Councillor Thuingahan Pheirim also attended the meeting to show support.
The Co-ordination meeting was organised by the Delimitation Committee of Sinakeithei Village, Ukhrul district.
