IMPHAL, Oct 2: Opposition Congress party has expressed strong disapproval of the three Farm Bills recently passed in the Parliament.
A number of Congress workers/supporters led by  ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president M Okendro and Congress Working Committee member Gaikhangam staged a sit-in-protest at the main gate of Congress Bhavan here today.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the protest demonstration staged under the banner Kisan Mazdoor Bachao Divas, O Ibobi who is also the CLP leader contended that the three Farm Bills were passed forcibly in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
It is not only the Congress party, all other Opposition parties and the country’s peasant community have been protesting against the three Bills across the country, Ibobi said.
Okendro said that they were staging the protest demonstration against the three Bill which have become Acts demanding annulment of the same Acts.
The three Bills were passed forcibly without ever consulting State Governments, farmers and other stake holders, said the MPCC president.
Earlier, the Congress workers paid floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi inside Congress Bhavan and they were led by O Ibobi, Gaikhangam and M Okendro.
Ibobi said that one should be clean both physically and mentally as espoused by Mahatma Gandhi.
It was the non-violent civil movement spearheaded by Mahatma Gandhi which defeated the mighty British empire and freed India from colonial yoke, Ibobi added.
Later in the evening the Congress and its youth fronts staged a rally in Imphal denouncing the Farm Bills.
