IMPHAL, Nov 11: The Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council (CPI, MSC) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari and others to repair the Imphal-Jiribam road which has been cut off since November 1 after the snapping of Irang bridge.
Speaking to media persons during a press meet held at Irawat Bhawan, Imphal, secretary of CPI, MSC, L Sotinkumar stated that a copy of the memorandum has also been submitted to National general secretary of CPI, D Raja to highlight the plights of the State's people caused by the breaking off of the National Highway.
Sotinkumar asserted the Irang bridge, Makru bridge and Barak bridge which have existed since the time of World War II aren't repaired properly till date.
Saying that Rs 33 crore was sanctioned to upgrade the three bridges to RCC earlier but the project cancelled as not much amount could be left after deducing compensation and militants demand, Sotinkumar urged the Government to construct an RCC bridge at the site of Irang bridge at the earliest.
He also urged the Government to make the groups which are levying illegal taxes from the transporters and people who commute along the National Highways stopped their activity and station Highway Protection Force along the lifelines of Manipur.
