IMPHAL, Nov 6: President of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup, Thoudam Shanti has stated that opening Khwairamband Keithel at a time when COVID cases are rising quicker in the State would be 'imprudent.'
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Shanti also asked who will control the market-goers, traders etc., if the market is indeed opened.
The lup doesn't stop any vendors from resuming their business, but who will take responsibility if the opening of the women-only market augments the spread of COVID cases, she continued.
The positivity and mortality rate of COVID-19 of Manipur is a proof that people are still vulnerable to COVID infections, she added.
Shanti also asserted that officials and staff of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) and the State police cannot control the people coming to the keithel from different parts and make them follow the SOPs laid down to prevent COVID infections.
Opening the Khwairamband Keithel only after the COVID-19 threat subsides would be a better option as most of the vendors, she suggested.
