Voluntary blood donation camp organised

In line with the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day, a voluntary blood donation camp was organised today at RIMS Blood Bank, Lamphelpat.
The blood donation camp was jointly organised by Life Savers Manipur; Babina Speciality Hospital, Khabeisoi; SAVI; HDFC Bank, Imphal; State Blood Transfusion Council, Manipur; State Blood Cell-National Health Mission, Manipur and RIMS Blood Bank under the theme 'Lets Donate Blood Voluntarily and Contribute to the Fight Against Corona', said a statement of Life Savers Manipur.
Youths from various parts of the State donated blood during the programme which was graced by Dr A Barindra Sharma, Professor and Head of Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS; Dr RK Manglem, MO, Pathology-Babina Speciality Hospital, Khabeisoi; K Padmakumar Sharma, managing director, Life Savers Manipur and Khundrakpam Premjit Singh, blood donor with a record of 66 donations, the statement said.
Dr RK Manglem during the programme praised the ideas of various bodies to organise such a blood donation camp at a time when the State is facing acute shortage of blood in blood banks, it said.  The statement also quoted him as saying, "COVID-19 crisis has added another woes to the shortage issue and the camp will surely help alleviate the hardships faced by patients needing blood." As a part of the programme, State Blood Transfusion Council also distributed faced masks, donor badge and certificates to the donors, it said.
The programme also remembered  and observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the seasoned voluntary blood donor Potsangbam Boby (Blind Man) who passed away recently on November 3, it continued.
