Ukhrul MLA launches weekly Wednesday market

Ukhrul, Dec 2: Ukhrul MLA Alfred Arthur Kanngam while launching weekly Wednesday market at Leingapha Kasomtang, Ukhrul urged the local denizens to adapt the mindset of inclusiveness in business for sustainable and to boost the local economy.
The MLA cut the ribbon and declared the market open.  
Speaking on the occasion, the Ukhrul MLA Alfred elucidated the theme " Connecting producers with consumers" of the weekly Wednesday market.
Alfred said that policies have been formulated to support the youth who returned from different States to take up business enterprise for self sustain economy.
Both the public and the elected people representatives should work together and take equal responsibilities to ensure our local market survives and provides sustainable livelihoods without much dependence on others, he added.
The MLA also mentioned that Hunphun/Ukhrul village is the epicentre for the Tangkhul community.
Saying that the villagers must encourage one another to revamp the local economy, Alfred continued that business can sustain only when producers can supply goods sufficiently at a common rate.
Exclusiveness is bad for business as it will only lead to isolation, he said and appealed to all traders of the area to expand their business.
The visiting MLA  also urged the locals to adhere to SOPs for COVID-19 whenever outdoors.
Wearing a face mask, regular washing hands and maintaining physical distance are the most effective ways to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
DC, Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamson who attended the programme as guest honour of the programme expressed the potential of Ukhrul district in food production.

Arrayed organic vegetables such as yams, cabbages, wild fruits, broccolis, pickles, locally made candies and wooden made decorative items were showcased and put up for sale.
