Constitution Day

The Manipur Government-in-exile headed by ‘Chief Minister’ Yambem Biren has asserted that January 1 is the Constitution Day of Manipur.
The Constitution of Manipur was enacted under the Manipur State Constitution Act 1947 by the Maharaja of Manipur as a sovereign authority on January 1, 1947, said a press release issued by Yambem Biren.
Manipur State created by the Manipur State Constitution Act comprises the whole territory of Manipur as delineated in the maps of the Survey of India current on the date of enactment of the Constitution of Manipur.
When the Manipur State Constitution Act 1947 was codified in concurrence with the Crown paramountcy, a special clause was provided as, if any case/circumstance arises which prevents proper operation of the Constitution Act, the Manipur State Council may at their discretion refer the matter for decision to such authority outside the State as may be decided hereafter and the decision of that authority shall be binding, it said.
It asserted that the Constitution of Republic of India should be operated and limited within the territory of the Republic of India and it should not encroach into the territory of Manipur.
One Constitution creates only one State but the Constitution of India created more than 27 States. It is a misnomer in the eyes of the law, it alleged.
