IMPHAL, Feb 10 : Chiru SC and UBFC, Hmarkholien sealed their places in the quarter finals of the 13th Jiri Cup Invitation Football Tournament 2019-20 with contrasting wins today at Jiribam Hr Secondary School Playground.
In the 7th preliminary round knock out stage match, Chiru SC edged out PFC, Phaitol by 2-1 goals to make themselves through to the quarter final league stage as latter team's Khuppol was sent off with second yellow in the 32nd minute.
Changneikhum gave Chiru SC a 1-0 lead till the break with a fine strike in the 40th minute before Sansook scored an own goal in the 50th minute to the level the score.
The neck and neck match almost ended with the same scoreline however an unexpected Joel goal during the stoppage time helped Chiru SC wrap up the game 2-1 and book the quarter final berth.
Meanwhile, the 8th and the last preliminary round knock out stage match emerged to be the high scoring game with both teams looking forward for the quarter final berth.
UBFC led the first half 4-2 with Ela (6', 28'), Emmanuel (16') and Jehovata (19') finding the target while Lunminthang (18') and Joseph (22') scored for Kuki SC.
Lalremsang then made it 5-2 for UBFC in the 48th minute before Jacob pulled back another for Kuki SC in the 50th minute.
Jehovatah helped UBFC retain the three goal lead with his second in the 62nd minute before completing his treble in the 75th minute. Jacob also scored his second in the 77th minute for Kuki SC to make it 4-7 but their latter effort were dealt with ease by UBFC defense. Eventually UBFC sealed the game 7-4.
The quarter final league stage will begin from February 13 with FC Lamjao taking on PYA, Kairang.
